Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Solo Time Tracker is operated by Anna Vermunt, based in the Netherlands. We are the data controller for the limited data described below. Contact: contact@solotimetracker.com.
2. The short version
Solo Time Tracker requires no account and no sign-up. Your time-tracking data — projects, clients, time entries — is stored only in your own browser and is never sent to, or stored on, our servers. We have no ability to see, access, or recover this data. The only data connected to your use of the app is limited, anonymous usage analytics (Section 3) and anything you choose to email us directly (Section 4).
3. Analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand overall usage of the app (e.g. how many people visit each page, which features get used). Umami:
- does not use cookies,
- does not track you individually or across other websites,
- reports data in aggregate, not tied to an identifiable individual,
- does not retain your IP address — it is used momentarily, combined with your browser and hostname, to generate a random daily identifier, then discarded. This app self-hosts its own instance of Umami, including its database, on Vercel (the same host as this app itself), under our own account — no separate third-party analytics company has access to this data.
Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding basic, aggregate usage of the app to improve it — see Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Because this analytics setup does not use cookies and does not identify individuals, it falls within the exemption in Article 11.7a(3) of the Dutch Telecommunicatiewet (implementing Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive) for technology strictly necessary for the requested service and for certain privacy-friendly analytical tools — so it does not require cookie-consent-banner-style consent.
4. If you email us
If you use the "Contact / feedback" link, it opens your own email client — we receive whatever you choose to send us (typically your email address and the content of your message). We use this only to respond to you, and we do not add you to any mailing list or share it with anyone else. We retain support emails for 12 months before deleting them, unless a longer retention is needed for a specific ongoing issue.
5. Hosting
The app is hosted on Vercel. Like most hosting providers, Vercel's infrastructure may briefly log basic technical request data (such as IP address) for security and operational purposes, independent of anything the app itself does. We do not have access to build a profile from this, and it is not linked to your time-tracking data, which — again — never reaches our servers in the first place.
6. Government data requests
Your time-tracking data — projects, clients, time entries — lives only in your own browser and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers. There is no time-tracking data on our servers for any government or authority — in the Netherlands, the EU, the US, or elsewhere — to request. This protection comes from the app's architecture, not from where the business is based: we simply do not hold that data.
We do hold a small amount of other data, described elsewhere in this policy: aggregate, anonymous analytics (Section 3), the content of any support email you send us (Section 4), and brief technical logs kept by our hosting provider (Section 5). That data could, in principle, be subject to a lawful request in the jurisdiction where it is held — though its limited, non-identifying nature (or, for support emails, its narrow scope to whoever chooses to write in) means there is little to disclose in practice.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
Because so little personal data touches our systems at all, most of these rights have little to act on in practice — but you have the right to:
- access any personal data we hold about you (in practice: support emails, if any),
- rectify inaccurate data,
- erase data we hold (e.g. ask us to delete a past support email thread),
- object to or restrict our processing — for the analytics described in Section 3, this is automatic: our Umami instance honors your browser's Do Not Track (DNT) signal and excludes your visits from tracking entirely when it's enabled,
- data portability, where applicable,
- lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl) if you believe we have mishandled your data.
To exercise any of these, email contact@solotimetracker.com.
8. Children
Solo Time Tracker is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
